This placement would suit... Take part in a wildlife monitoring and assessment project in a malaria-free Big 5 game reserve in South Africa's wild and beautiful Eastern Cape. While staying in the game reserve you'll work on many aspects of conservation management, including game monitoring, alien plant management, boma building, seaside ecology, and photography. In your free time you can explore the lands and the oceans of this beautiful area Programme HighlightsJoin conservation efforts on a malaria-free, "Big 5" nature reserve. Your hands-on experience will include everything from the rugged to the social. You’ll assist with the identification of animals, game and flora monitoring, caring for elephants and lions in the sanctuary and poaching prevention. You will also need to pitch in and do general maintenance and community work such as child care and teaching.And, last but not least, you will occasionally assist with the tourism aspect of the projects and act as host and waiter to the lodge’s guests. Qualifications and Minimum Skills No particular skills required - just enthusiasm! What can I do in my spare time? The village was built in 1830 and the surrounding area is awash with adventure opportunities and old battlefields. Adrenaline junkies can travel to the coast to surf or kite board. If you are into forests a trip to the picturesque Hogsback Village nestled in the Amatola Mountains is a must. Huge indigenous forests provide wonderful hikes, scenic waterfalls and snow in winter.
