This placement would suit... those interested in a career in surf coaching and also for those with a keen interest in the sport.
 The Programme
GAP SPORTS offers an intensive six-week surfing programme, endorsed by the South African Surf Association. It has been designed for you to learn and practise the sport under the guidance of top instructors.
Located in the Eastern Province of South Africa, Jeffrey's Bay is one of the world’s most famous surfing destinations and is known for its endless summers, long white sandy beaches and azure blue sea. This is where you will train and live for the six-week surfing programme.
We have chosen the top surfing instructors in Jeffrey's Bay to run the programme. All are highly qualified instructors and life guards, ensuring absolute professionalism and competency. Generally the programme will offer lessons in the morning (Monday - Friday) and the afternoons are used for practise.
At the end of your six weeks with GAP SPORTS, you will be certified as having completed the surf introduction to level 1 Coaching Programme endorsed by the South African Surf Association.
The programme also includes full day excursions in and around the bay of St Francis where you will explore the famous Supertubes and the legendary breaks of 'Endless Summer Fame'. These excursions are accompanied by a local surfing guide.
Adventure
Weekends are saved for you to perfect your surfing technique and experience all that South Africa has to offer! From dune boarding to canoeing to bungee jumping, South Africa is known for its extreme sports and there are lots of activities for you to try out!
You can also use free of charge a variety of beach toys such as stunt kites, snorkelling gear, body boards and beach bats so you can chill out on the beach, practise your technique and at the end of the day enjoy theme nights and daily happy hour at the fully licensed bar.
Accommodation
You will be living in accommodation on the Indian Ocean coastline, near enough to hear the waves crashing on the beach! You will sleep in dormitory rooms and the accommodation also offers a fully equipped self-catering kitchen, laundry service, internet cafe and a games room with a pool table and darts. All meals are provided.

After your six weeks surfing programme, you can experience a further two weeks in Port Elizabeth on the one of the following placements (at an additional cost):
