 Whale watching tours are currently the fastest growing tourism sector in the world. The South African coastline boasts no less than all three major species of whale along its shores. Numerous towns and villages offer ideal vantage points from which to enjoy sightings of these magnificent creatures. Regular boat trips and shore excursions allow for intimate encounters with these largest of mammals.
Work & Travel South Africa offers volunteer work in tourism and hospitality positions in private game reserves, safari lodges, coastal resorts and boutique hotels. Placements at tourism establishments in scenic locations and areas of natural beauty.
Placement options in the city of Cape Town famous for its beautiful beaches and cosmopolitan vibe, the majestic Garden Route with its natural beauty and unspoiled coastline, and game reserves in the Greater Kruger Park area boasting prolific wildlife in pristine African bush!
Volunteers receive live-in accommodation, all meals, a monthly personal allowance and ample time to travel and explore the region. No experience needed as positions range from entry level to management. Volunteers receive a completion certificate and the opportunity to experience South Africa as more than a tourist!
 We have different game lodges located in pristine African wildlife areas. Most properties are in private game reserves, many of which border on the Greater Kruger National Park, and offer unbeatable wildlife safaris to their exclusive clientele.

Hermanus is the whale capital of South Africa and offers the best land-based whale watching in the world. It is about 45 min drive from Gansbaai which is internationally known for its white sharks and cage diving. Hermanus is 120km from Cape Town, on the Indian Ocean at the start of the famous Garden Route.
Designed as a home-away-from-home, this guest house welcomes clients with friendly service and typical South African hospitality. The beach house offers magnificent views over Walker Bay with its regular sightings of whale breaches and blows.
 Decorated in a unique marine theme by the owner herself, utilising characteristic and distinctive colours such as Nourse Blue, each room feels cool and breezy during the hot South African summer. The guest house has a sparkling pool and is within close walking distance to restaurants and shops.
Activities on offer include whale watching excursions, great white shark diving, shopping, arts and crafts, walking and hiking amongst proteas and fynbos, horse riding, tennis, cycling, golf at surrounding estates, a wellness centre and wine tasting from the surrounding winelands.
