This placement would suit... Lattitude placements suit individuals with a can-do attitude who are willing to work hard to get the most out of their placement. Your placementLattitude's caring placements in South Africa involve helping with or leading group activities, supervising the work and recreation of the residents, office work and perhaps driving. You could be working with children or adults with disabilities. You will support members of staff in occupational and physiotherapy departments and assisting with games, recreational activities, life-skills classes and numeracy lessons. Many children are only partly disabled and are capable of mental learning, physical activity, games, crafts and creative arts. A few children are in wheelchairs, but are able to get themselves about. Other activities of the job would be: assist in special classes with reading and English, help with music lessons, helping out in the office with administration. All of the placements in which Lattitude operates are multicultural, they are normally co-educational and cover the full age spectrum. Many schools operate Outreach programmes in the wider community that will involve you. A Teaching Skills Course is necessary for all schools projects. You may well be working alongside other international volunteers. Our users say "Before getting to my placement I felt very nervous as even though I received a lot of information on my placement I still didn't know what I was letting myself in for. I'm so glad that I went though as now I feel that I am prepared for life and I now know a lot more about the world around me." Abby Holland from St Ives, Cambridgeshire, UK
