This placement would suit... Adventurous students who may not be taking an entire gap year or for those who want to finish their gap year with a blast!

A unique and fun six-week adventurous expedition through Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana and Zambia with a team of 16. Teams are lead by experienced expedition leaders who not only make sure you get the most out of each country and generally show you a good time, but are also highly experienced travellers and probably some of the most enthusiastic people you’ll ever meet!

Activities included

What’s included? All the activities listed below, food, accommodation, expedition equipment such as tents, cookers, ropes, canoes, diving gear etc and internal transport is included which makes this a very good deal indeed for such a varied expedition route.

Swaziland - The smallest country in the Southern Hemisphere

Time for a challenge as we set off for a three-day trek through the stunning game reserves of Swaziland. The views from the hilltops of bordering South Africa and the odd zebra or kudu running past make this experience in the wilderness one of the most unique things you will ever do.

Mozambique - The undiscovered country with thousands of miles of pristine beaches

We slow the pace down for a bit and enjoy the amazing white sand and blue sea that is Tofu beach. You’ll officially become an Open Water Diver (or Advanced, if you can already dive) and get the chance to snorkel with whale sharks (no worries, they only eat plankton!), humpback whales and six metre long manta rays, as well as surfing, sunbathing and of course, having a few cocktails.

South Africa - Nelson Mandela's dream of 'The Rainbow Nation'

Having suitably chilled out in Mozambique, now it’s time to get the heart racing again. South Africa is the ‘adrenalin’ stage of the expedition and will see you bridge swinging, canyoning, paintballing, river tubing, abseiling and caving. If that all sounds a bit too hectic, there’s plenty of opportunity to sit back and admire the stunning views of South Africa’s version of the Grand Canyon – The Blyde River Canyon. We’ll also stop over in Pretoria and hopefully squeeze in a visit to the Soweto townships and Apartheid museum in Johannesburg – which is a sobering, educational and emotional experience.

Botswana - The Land of the San Bushmen

Back out into the 'real' Africa again, and we begin by heading to the huge Makgadikgadi Salt Pans (try saying that after a few Carlings)! Starting out with a 4x4 safari across the edge of the pans we then meet up with our quad-bikes and spend the next few hours quadding over the amazingly beautiful and stunningly flat pans! It’s guaranteed you’ll end up covered in salt and laughing your head off, so it’s probably a good thing that we spend the night out on the pans, sleeping on roll mats under the stars. There’s no better way to experience Africa!

After the pans it’s off for the experience of a lifetime – the Okavango Delta - where you’ll spend two nights wild camping in the middle of the game reserve, doing walking safaris and dug-out canoe trips. The wildlife is absolutely stunning and the feeling of being totally out in the wild surrounded by all the 'Big Five' is something you’ll never forget.

Finally we head off on the official 'safari' stage, through some of Botswana’s premiere parks. This is probably THE best place for game viewing in the whole of Africa and you’ll be guaranteed to be swamped by elephants, hippos and zebras on a daily basis, not to mention the excitement of the occasional lion, leopard or buffalo…

Zambia - Home of the mighty Victoria Falls

Now, we wouldn’t like to finish without a bit of a grand finale and where better than the largest waterfalls in Africa. Yup – Victoria Falls a.k.a. ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ is the end of the expedition, and what a way to go out in style. Not only are The Falls one of the most awe-inspiring, mind-blowing views you’ll ever see but there’s also the prospect of the 111 metre high bungy jump that’ll get your heart racing. Believe me, by the end of the expedition it will have achieved almost mythical proportions with you and your team-mates! If you’re not up for plummeting through that much air though, there’s always the option of taking a micro-light or bi-plane ride over the falls, so you can truly appreciate just how large they are!
