Explore New Zealand's northern and southern heartlands... Leaving Auckland, we drive north through fantastic scenery towards New Zealand’s winterless north. We make our way to the port to board our overnight cruise. The boat is equipped with kayaks, snorkeling gear and other equipment for all the planned stops at the islands on this 24-hour tour. Next head South to Waitomo where you can take a boat trip and walk through the glow worm caves or try black water rafting - descending an underground river floating on an inner tube. We then head to Rotorua, at the heart of New Zealand’s thermal area where you can see geysers and boiling mud pools. We’ll also visit Te Puia at Whakarewarewa, the site of the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute and give you the chance to attend a Maori Hangi dinner. On the way to Taupo, we visit the spectacular Huka falls, where you can bungee and jet boat. Many will want to hike the famous Tongariro Crossing track, offering spectacular views of the volcanic plateau and the lakes. In Wellington, you can see the fantastic new museum on New Zealand called Te Papa. Next morning cross to the South Island on the inter island ferry, enjoying the fantastic scenery of the Marlborough Sound. We drive to the picturesque town of Nelson, heart of the wine producing area and home of some of the most beautiful sea kayaking in the world, where you can also try sailing, mountain biking and a wide range of hikes. Drive down the rugged Kaikoura coastline with its great views and marine life and perhaps the chance to spot a whale. At Kaikoura, experience being close to the world’s largest of creatures on a whale watching trip by sea or air. Kaikoura is also a wonderful place to experience the vibrant Maori culture with much to see and do.After a night in Christchurch, we head west crossing over the dividing mountain range before entering the lush subtropical rain forests of the stunning west coast. We stop for short walks at beautiful hidden locations along the way. The drive down the coast today is stunning. We stop for a break at deserted beaches and exquisite hidden lakes then pull in to Franz Joseph Glacier for a view of the glacier before night falls. There are spectacular flights available in both helicopters and ski planes which offer unequalled views of the mountains, valleys and glaciers and there is the option of a snow landing depending on the trip you pick. There are also guided walks onto the glacier and excellent light hikes available in the valley. Leaving the glacier behind we’ll give you three days to see and experience the extreme activity capital of the world - Queenstown. There is simply no end to the fantastic line up of activities including bungee jumping, mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, helicopter rides, jet boats and paragliding. After all the thrills of Queenstown, you’ll have the chance to relax on board the Milford Wanderer floating hotel fjord ship for your overnight cruise. A stunning setting with tall mountain peaks, waterfalls and crystal clear water. You get to paddle a kayak over the tranquil waters and to see fantastic marine life.During the winter months of May to September this is a day trip only without kayaking.
